Our recent inquiry was “what are you listening to” witch was on the music that we listen to and the music industry and how it is produces the music that we listen to. One of the task that we did was chose a role that best suited us and then get get into groups of all of the roles and simulate a record company and produce a CD with a song about our year seven experience. My group name was Killeristic records decided by our leader.
Firstly we had to meet in our groups and discuss about our roles and who was going to be an artist. Then we had to chose three karaoke version songs that we could change the lyrics to and then be our song. We chose a few with a couple being knocked back because of lack of radio edit (They Were naughty). We then ended up with the song Tik Tok by Ke$ha, witch ended up being very easy to parody (I didn’t like the song). We then went into doing our own roles as a group to then produce our song. My was the music production engineer (Of course i was going to be the tech guy), there role was to assist anyone with the role with computers and prepare the recording.
I think that my team did pretty well. We didn’t get the most done out of everyone but we did get done what was asked. Our song anded up really cheesey, it was terrible. The main thing was that we worked as a team to get the job done.

40 hour famine

Recently all the year sevens got the choice to participate in the 40 hour famine. Its an event for charity were we give up something close to us for 40 hours. It was originally food but there is other things like technology furniture and some people even gave up sight or arms. I chose to give up talking for 40 hours. I did have trouble coping without talking it was tough but i gave it my best. It was especially hard when people would ask you why you weren’t talking and you couldn’t respond.

What are you listening to?

AS one of our activities for our homework this week we had to listen to a new radio station for an hour. The activity was Spend an hour or so listening to a radio station different from what you usually listen to and then blog you thoughts.
I don’t usually have a set radio station as i don’t listen to it as much’as i would the songs i already have on my iPod. If i ever do listen to the radio it is in the car which i don’t chose the station anyway. The radio station i chose to listen to was NOVA 91.9. After listening to it for an hour I picked up a few things about. Basically it is the same as most of your normal radio station with the same type of modern music. One main thing i noticed was that as it reached a later time the station had less and less music and more discussion.
After listening to it for an hour i grew more fond of it and think it will be a station i will listen to more often.
Torrens Building
Sep 12th
our school has recently built some new buildings that have just been finished. The current class i’m in is moving to the new classrooms this week. Every day we are going to move into the new classrooms for a little during the day up until Thursday. On Thursday we will fully move into the new buildings and remain there for the rest of the year.
On friday we went to visit the buildings and have a look around. I am excited about moving into the new building as It is an exciting new change. It will give us a new perspective on learning and give us a fresh learning space. For some people might even work better in the new rooms. I’m not to sure about the round tables yet ill have to wait and see.

Book week
Aug 29th
Last week for school we had book week. For book week we have a few different activities that we do related to books. On Tuesday last week we had the author Michael Pankridge come in to talk to us. He told us about when he was in school andhad to drink milk that had gone green from sitting in the sun. He also remembered when people knuckles would bleed after a caining. On the Thursday we had a book week parade, that is when the whole school dresses up as characters from books. Me and all my friends had fun dressing up because the whole day of school was less serious.
Future of books
Aug 24th
I believe that the future of books is going to be lost to today’s technology. Were books will fade over long periods of time, computer data can stay as long as it’s in the a sustainable file type and hard drive.
I can see the fact that some people like that they are holding a book in their hand but an e-reader or an ipad can be just as comfortable. I can see that in the defence there could be a virus or something that could cause data loss but the likeliness of that happening these days is getting smaller and smaller.
I think that technology will eventually takeover books and they will become rarer rarer.
Inquiry

As you know from my last post we had to do A performance on a dreaming story to a younger audience within our school. MY group did surprisingly well. The person the had to fill in for one of our actors did his role perfectly and knew his line off by heart and didn’t stuff up once. We ended up having to record it before hand so the person that couldn’t be there could be assessed on her performance. I’m pretty sure that for my role as a narrator i got an a for my performance.
So overall i think that my group did pretty well and that we got a pretty good score overall. There was only a few things we could improve on but besides that we did really good.
Inquiry Dreaming Story

For our inquiry topic (who has the cultural power) we have to do a recreation on a dreaming story of our groups choice. The teachers randomly chose groups of four and had to chose a dreaming story from some books and DVDs. My group chose the dreaming story the blue tongue lizard witch is about how the blue tongue came to be. So far my group is doing pretty good, well except for the fact that one of are people cant show up on the day and we need to get someone to fill in for her.
Hopefully it all goes according to plan on the day and we don’t have any stuff ups.

The NAPLAN test
May 17th
on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we have had NAPLAN tests all week. for are homework task we were told to write are feelings after the NAPLAN tests.
I found the test quite boring as they seem to go on for ever and get so boring. Secondly by the time you have finished a test you have cramps all over and have trouble getting up. Thirdly they get really repetitive as you have to do the same things over and over and over like shade one box write on the line circle a word.
by the end I was glad it was over as i was bored of it by only the second day.
